Christchurch hospitality businesses announced as national award winners

Two Christchurch hospitality businesses have won national titles in this year’s prestigious Hospitality Association of New Zealand Awards for Excellence.

Café Izone Lunchbar and Restaurant has taken out top honours in the Best New/Redeveloped Bar/Restaurant category, while The StockXchange bar has reigned supreme in the Excellence in Gaming category.

The pair were named winners at the Hospitality Association of New Zealand Awards for Excellence presented in Auckland last night. Hospitality Association of New Zealand chief executive officer Bruce Robertson said Café Izone and StockXchange were two class acts.

“Despite operating in economically challenging times, these two Christchurch award winners have shown an unrivalled passion and commitment for pursuing excellence in their respective sectors,” Mr Robertson said.

“With customer revenues becoming harder to sustain over the past 18 months, the temptation for many businesses has been to cut corners and make compromises. Not so for these two exceptional winners who have instead chosen to invest in their businesses, their marketing, and their staff, to ensure they attract customer loyalty and in fact build their brands.

“The innovation and flair seen throughout these two winning Christchurch establishments is a tribute to their respective operators - who are constantly seeking new services and ideas with which to keep their businesses vibrant, fun, and of course profitable.”

The Hospitality Association Awards for Excellence are judged on a range of business-focussed criteria – such as marketing strategies, human resourcing practices, profitability, operational policies, and customer service.
