Brown Brothers victorious at Tri Nations Wine Challenge

One of Brown Brothers’ most revered wines has claimed a major award at the annual Tri Nations Wine Challenge.

The Brown Brothers Patricia Pinot Noir, Chardonnay Brut 2005 was named top sparkling wine of the show during a presentation dinner on Friday night and was awarded a trophy ahead of 20 other top bubblies from Australia, New Zealand and South Africa.

Since 2003, the annual Tri Nations Wine Challenge has been pitting wines from Australia, New Zealand and South Africa against each other via a blind tasting and then judging by a leading wine expert from each nation – Bob Campbell MW from New Zealand, Huon Hooke from Australia and Michael Fridjhon from South Africa.

The respected Patricia range of wines was launched in 2003 as a tribute to Brown Brothers’ much loved matriarch, Patricia. The range is a dedication to her and the love and commitment she gave her family and business for over 60 years.

“My Mum always enjoyed a glass of sparkling and I know she would be thrilled that a wine named in her honour has received such an impressive accolade,” said Brown Brothers CEO, Ross Brown.

The Patricia Pinot Noir, Chardonnay Brut 2005 shows a fine persistent bead and lifted aromas with a rich yeast autolysis character and hints of citrus and apple. The palate is full bodied, complex and rich with prominent lemon and lime flavours and a bready character that lingers. It’s creamy and elegant with a crisp, dry finish and refreshing acidity.

“We’ve always believed that great sparkling wine begins in the vineyard,” said Ross. “Fruit for this wine is sourced from our cool climate Whitlands Vineyard (800m above sea level) and the consistent success we have had with the Patricia Brut over the years demonstrates that it is an ideal site for growing premium sparkling wine fruit.”
