Enlighten helps Downer New Zealand massively improving business productivity

Enlighten Designs has delivered a technology solution that has standardised and sped up Downer New Zealand (NZ)’s financial transactions by 300 percent, helped the firm grow faster and provided greater visibility to improve service quality.

Downer NZ, one of New Zealand’ largest engineering companies, provides engineering and infrastructure management services in Australia, New Zealand, and Asia-Pacific. It employs approximately 3,300 people and has annual revenues of NZ$750 million. To support growth, the business merged two divisions, Downer Edi Works and Downer EDi Engineering. The merge created a shared services department to process common service requests such as asset disposal requests, capital expenditure requests, and equipment maintenance. As a result, an automated electronic-forms processing solution was needed for the new department to operate effectively.

Using Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007 and the Microsoft Office InfoPath 2007, Enlighten Designs delivered a “smart form” solution to digitise and automate these service request processes. This solution successfully replaced- paper forms with electronic forms, creating automated workflows to route forms through review cycles, and provides management with a digital dashboard for reviewing the status and performance of key service request processes.

“We can now provide an eight-hour turnaround on all e-forms versus the two to three days that it took before,” says Shaun Noick, Business Analyst and Implementation Manager for the shared-services project at Downer New Zealand. “Furthermore, the ability to see our service transaction volumes at any given time enables management to make better decisions. We can see the highs, lows, and overall trends so that we can allocate more processing people during peak times.”

“We had only about three months to get the solution implemented.” says Chris Milne, Project Manager for the shared-services project at Downer New Zealand. “Enlighten was fantastic to work with.
