Bryan Leyland Signs Deal for Onekaka with Simply Energy

Wellington, 14 September 2010 – Bryan Leyland and his partners in Onekaka Hydro have entered into a Generation Services Contract with Simply Energy to manage power sales from the Onekaka hydro plant into the electricity market.

Onekaka is a 940kW hydro station connected into the Motupipi substation at Takaka in Golden Bay, the plant was originally developed for the Onekaka iron works in the 1920’s and abandoned in the 50’s. The plant was then refurbished and re-commissioned in 2004 by Jim Baird and Bryan Leyland that is currently generating approximately 3GWh per annum.

Stephen Peterson, Managing Director, at Simply Energy comments that “we are pleased to provide these services for Onekaka, this takes the number of individual generation plants under management with Simply Energy to seven with a number of other assets and projects in the pipeline.”

Stephen goes on to comment that “Bryan (Leyland) has a very informed view of the market with some robust opinions on the way the market is operated and therefore we believe that entrusting the market services of Onekaka to Simply Energy is a strong endorsement that Simply Energy knows it’s stuff providing a high level of service to independent generators.”

Bryan Leyland goes on to say, “I like what Simply Energy are offering to independent generators and their detailed understanding of the market, they have a well established business in this area and are well regarded by their clients.”
