North Shore Hospice Wins Recognition
North Shore Hospice Trust was recognised for its hard work in community service at the 2010 Westpac Enterprise North
Shore Business Excellence Awards.
They won the North Shore Times Excellence in Not for Profit Award at the annual awards in front of 750 local business
people.
Judges reported that the Trust’s continued success is validation of the strong planning and governance displayed by the
board and management, and their unswerving commitment to providing a much needed service to a wide cross section of the
community.
North Shore Hospice Trust offers a free service providing specialist palliative care to more than 500 patients and
families annually supporting them through the challenges of a terminal illness.
Mike Franklin, CEO of North Shore Hospice Trust says, “This honour recognises not only the efforts of all those
specialists involved in the delivery of palliative care, but the 650 volunteers who give up their time to make the
service possible. “A challenge for North Shore Hospice is to provide a service sufficiently resourced to be able to
deliver a free service to all in need. As our reputation has grown and knowledge of the service becomes more widely
known, demands in the service have grown. The Westpac Enterprise North Shore Business Excellence Awards provides an
opportunity to further increase awareness of hospice and to increase community support.”
Enterprise North Shore chief executive Terry Hoskins applauds the role of the non-profit sector. “Organisations like
North Shore Hospice make an enormous contribution to our community, while also delivering valuable services to those
most at need. It is important that we acknowledge the role these groups play as a cornerstone of our community.”
