For immediate release

The Warehouse Group announces million dollar donation and support programme for Christchurch

The Warehouse, Warehouse Stationery and the Tindall Foundation will donate $1 million to quake stricken Canterbury.

The donation will be made to the Mayoral Relief Fund and is part of the Warehouse Group’s commitment to helping the devastated community and supporting Kiwis in need.

Ian Morrice, CEO of The Warehouse, says, in addition to the $1 million donation, the Group will run a number of initiatives in The Warehouse and Warehouse Stationery stores to further support the relief effort, starting immediately.

“We understand that New Zealanders want to help their fellow Kiwis whose lives have been devastated by the earthquake and we want to make it easy for our customers to offer their support, no matter how small their contribution.”

Customers can donate directly to the Mayoral Relief Fund through all Warehouse stores nationwide, with collections being taken in-store from tomorrow until Sunday 26 September, and all funds will go towards supporting Christchurch.

Morrice continues, “Our thoughts are with our all our customers and team members affected by Saturday’s earthquake. We want to reassure everyone in Canterbury that we are behind them 100% and, as well as the short term, we’ll continue looking for ways to assist them over the coming weeks.”

At The Warehouse’s eight stores in the Christchurch region, there will be special discounts on selected lines to assist customers with purchases of important essentials at this difficult time.

Warehouse Stationery’s four stores in the Christchurch region are seeking to make insurance claims easier for their customers by offering 50 free photo prints and half-price photo-copy cards, as well as special offers on packaging to assist people’s huge tidy-up efforts.

Recognising the enormous impact of the earthquake on local businesses, particularly those in central Christchurch, Warehouse Stationery stores in Canterbury will also offer discounts to their business account customers, including specials on core office basics.

“Beyond our donation today and short-term assistance plans, we’ll continue listening to our customers and local support services – including the Red Cross and the Salvation Army to whom we’ve spoken – to understand how we can best make a difference and help rebuild the community in the longer term,” says Morrice.
