NZ Newspaper Readership Increase
National newspaper readership has increased, according to the latest Nielsen research.
Average national daily readership for all people aged 15 plus in the year to June 30 was 1,612,000, an increase of 11,000 every day on the previous year.
“This is a strong result – more than 1.6 million readers every day - that reflects the enduring power of print,” Newspaper Publishers’ Association chief executive Tim Pankhurst said.
“Readership is up across all dailies and across both metropolitan and regional titles.
“Online readerships are growing markedly and when combined with print, newspapers and their websites have more readers than ever as the transition from newspaper to news media companies continues.”
The Nielsen National Readership Survey year on year comparisons – July 2008 to June 2009 with July 2009 to June 2010 – was released at noon today (Aug 13).
Circulation figures also released today showed largely stable sales across the country in line with readership.
