Let’s have a conversation about welfare

Let’s have a conversation about welfare

A full range of options should be considered for tackling our high benefit numbers, says BusinessNZ.

Chief Executive Phil O’Reilly said the Welfare Working Group’s report lays out many of the issues but makes no recommendations.

“We should note that the Group does not recommend an insurance-based scheme funded by employers.

“Hopefully the work of the Welfare Working Group will start a national conversation that will result in more New Zealanders in work.

“Welfare dependency is an issue that affects everyone. Every New Zealander would benefit from reducing the numbers.

“We need to look at the issues raised by the Welfare Working Group and work through the best actions for the future.”
