Stylish Celestion – a new star in town

Auckland City Mayor John Banks officially unveils the city’s newest apartment development today.

The development has already opened for business as the Waldorf Celestion. Providing short-stay accommodation for the ‘four-star’ traveller, the Celestion is a twin-tower complex with entries from Emily Place and Anzac Avenue.

Mike Gibbon, project manager for the development company Tasman Cook, says The Celestion was finished ahead of schedule, and on budget, and the final product has received a lot of positive reviews.

The architect was Clark Brown, and construction by Kalmar.

The architectural design is a unique response to the building’s location, with adjacent historical buildings such as the Brooklyn and Eden Court apartments suggesting an art deco era. “The architectural brief was to create an icon on the Auckland cityscape, one that connected with the historical influences around it, but also showed contemporary urban style,” says Mr Gibbon.

With street appeal and stylish interiors, the Celestion is a welcome addition to the Auckland CBD. And the city needs it, says Mike Gibbon. “There’s a shortage of accommodation, and there isn’t a lot of development going on to fill the gap.”
