Rabobank announces appointment of new sustainability/climate change analyst
Rabobank Australia & New Zealand has announced the appointment of Tracey Allen as an analyst in its Food & Agribusiness Research and Advisory (FAR) division, specialising in the sustainability, climate change and water sectors.
Announcing the appointment, Rabobank general manager - FAR Justin Sherrard said Rabobank was expanding its coverage of these sectors, known as „megatrends, with a focus on key issues such as New Zealands Emissions Trading Scheme, genetic modification, and water trading.
“The bank will integrate these issues into the analysis being undertaken across the agricultural commodity groups Rabobank covers,” Mr Sherrard said.
The worlds leading food and agribusiness bank, Rabobank is one of Australia and New Zealands largest rural banks and a major provider of corporate financial services to the regions food and agribusiness sector. The FAR team is a dedicated unit within Rabobank which undertakes research into food and agribusiness sectors. The local FAR team is part of a global network of approximately 80 research analysts across the bank.
Mr Sherrard said Ms Allen brought a strong background in agricultural economics to the FAR team. “Tracey has impressive experience in water trading and management and in climate change mitigation for the livestock industry,” he said. “She has also turned her hand to the horticulture industry strategy development and market-based instruments in her previous work.”
Ms Allen studied Agricultural Economics at Sydney University where she completed a thesis on carbon offsets for the domestic voluntary carbon market. She went on to become an agricultural economic consultant where she developed a strong understanding of the key issues and trends in the agricultural sphere. Ms Allen has consulted on a range of environmental matters including climate change adaptation, water pricing and trading, and has experience in general market commentary and analysis.
Ms Allen said she “is passionate about environmental markets and will take on her new role with enthusiasm”. “Climate change and sustainability issues are real and our agriculture and food industries must be proactive in this area. Joining Rabobanks food and agribusiness research team gives me the opportunity to assist farmers to understand and manage these issues,” she said.
Ms Allen said her interest in agriculture and food production stemmed from her family of dairy farmers who have been milking in Cobargo NSW for the past 80 years. “I love heading back down to the farm for a dose of fresh air,” she said.
