Freightways awards Gen-i major mobile contract
Freightways awards Gen-i major mobile, voice and data
contract
Delivers Freightways business efficiencies
and cost savings
Auckland, 24 June 2010 – Freightways Limited has signed a three year ‘whole of business’ telecommunications contract with Gen-i that extends its existing relationship to include mobile solutions delivered via Telecom’s XT Mobile Network.
The contract includes voice, mobile and data services, including Gen-i’s new managed data networking service, Gen-i WAN Services (GWS). The new services will deliver cost savings and enable Freightways’ business units to be more flexible in responding to their customers’ needs.
Freightways operates in the domestic express package, business mail and information management markets. Freightways CEO, Dean Bracewell, says investing in its telecommunications is essential to the company as it looks to increase its market share and enhance its customer experience and service quality.
According to Bracewell, Gen-i demonstrated that it understood the drivers of each business unit and created a telecommunications roadmap that will meet the current and future requirements of its express package, business mail and information management services businesses.
“Gen-i will help simplify our telecommunications and maximise the efficiency of the technology solutions we already have to achieve cost savings and improve productivity. Investing in Voice over IP technology will also consolidate our infrastructure and future-proof our telecommunications, as well as enable us to take advantage of technologies such as unified communications,” he added.
As well as using XT for its mobile voice needs, XT mobile data solutions are also expected to help the company improve its customer experience by being able to respond to its customers more quickly.
“Mobile is extremely important to our business as it enables us to be able to deliver a better overall service to our clients. Our dispatchers send data securely in real-time over the XT network to our courier contractors who use mobile devices to respond to jobs and record pickup and delivery data. It helps us to be more efficient, simplifies the way we operate and shortens the time before this data is available to our customers.
“Through Gen-i, we will have access to the latest innovations in mobility technology and we will be looking to leverage Gen-i’s ICT expertise in providing converged solutions, that combine fixed and mobile technologies, to assist our competitive positioning in the wider market,” said Bracewell.
The bid was competitive and Bracewell says the quality of service, engagement and support that Gen-i provides to Freightways was a key part in the decision making.
“Through Gen-i we have access to the Total Network dealers throughout the country providing local support for our nationwide operations. We’ve also found having one client manager to look after our needs has made it easier for us to engage with Gen-i,” he said.
Chris Quin, Gen-i’s Chief Executive Officer, said Freightways is a company that constantly looks to improve the service it provides its clients and embraces technology to help achieve this.
“Our team worked with Freightways to understand the challenges the business faces and have helped create a technology roadmap that will maximise the value of their investment in ICT and allow it to leverage future innovations in mobile technology to support the business.
“We look forward to working with the Freightways team to explore new ways to deliver solutions that add value to their business and will help them meet their customer needs.”
