Farmside Chief Executive Tony Baird has resigned from his role after three years heading the fast growth telecommunications company. In the interim Board Chairman Richie Smith will assume the role of Acting Chief Executive.
Mr Baird will move to Vodafone New Zealand to take up the role as Head of Networks and Operations.
Mr Smith paid tribute to Mr Baird’s leadership of Farmside over the past three years.
“Under Tony’s guidance Farmside has grown over 700 percent with a customer base of over 11,000 rural and urban New Zealanders. Tony has played a huge part in leading Farmside towards being New Zealand’s leading rural telecommunications provider and has himself been a strong champion for the rural sector.
“Tony has been responsible for developing a strong government and corporate channel alongside the very successful remote rural schools satellite broadband trial.”
“During the last three years Tony has lead a successful rebrand of the company and launched a new product suite under the positioning ‘connecting rural New Zealand’. Farmside’s product portfolio has expanded considerably to now provide a full telecommunications service to rural New Zealand.
“Farmside has a New Zealand based Call-Centre and Technical Support Unit, staffed by people who understand the needs of the predominately rural customer base. Under Tony’s leadership, the Farmside Call-Centre was recently identified as one of the fastest and most responsive ISP Call-Centers available in New Zealand. The centre i based in Timaru.
“Mr Baird has positioned Farmside for even more future success. Tony leaves Farmside on Wednesday 30 June. The Board and staff of Farmside wish him every success.”
