Kaitaia mill workers take action

Kaitaia mill workers take action

Workers at the Juken New Zealand triboard mill in Kaitaia are taking industrial action following a breakdown in collective bargaining.

NDU Wood Sector Secretary Stan Renwick says workers are beginning a work to rule along with an overtime ban and are prepared to move to all out stoppages if they need to.

“After five days of negotiating all the company is prepared to offer is a 1.75% increase over an 18 month period,” he says.

“The workers are asking for a very modest 3.5% over the same period.”

The NDU and the EPMU are jointly representing the 100 odd workers involved in the bargaining.
