Vector proud to
be part of digital dream
An educational community that encourages its students to dream, explore, design, and create through technology is pretty exciting, said Vector Chief Executive Simon Mackenzie.
Mr Mackenzie was attending the launch today of the Computer Clubhouse Connected Community Project by Prime Minister the Rt. Hon John Key and Minister for the Community and Voluntary Sector the Hon Tariana Turia. The project is an initiative of Clubhouse 274 – a Manukau based branch of the global Intel Computer Clubhouse Network.
Vector was an early sponsor of Clubhouse 274 and in 2008 the company extended its South Auckland fibre optic network to connect the Clubhouse – thereby vastly improving its access to ultrafast fibre.
The essential premise of the clubhouse network is to provide a creative and safe after-school learning environment where young people work with adult mentors to explore their own ideas, develop skills, and build confidence in themselves through the use of technology.
“It is truly inspiring to witness the transformation that state of the art technology can bring in helping young people discover their potential and the realisation that they are capable of achieving their dreams.” Mr Mackenzie said.
These benefits will now be extended to the wider community under the Computer Clubhouse Connected Community Project which pulls together a seamless set of digital solutions with Clubhouse 274 operating as a hub between the school and community.
Mr Mackenzie attributed the success of Clubhouse 274 to the commitment of the Clubhouse team and the many volunteers helping youth acquire the tools necessary for personal and professional success.
“A team approach is the driving force behind this initiative and has pulled together an impressive array of support from the community, businesses, local and central government.”
Mr Mackenzie said that he was extremely proud of Vector’s involvement in Clubhouse 274 and the Computer Clubhouse Connected Community Project and its drive to improve digital fluency amongst young people and their families in Otara.
Vector’s fibre optic network spans the greater Auckland area providing upload and down load speeds of 1 gigabit per second with potential for far greater. Vector’s aspiration is to build a fibre to the door network in the Auckland region to ensure New Zealanders have first world infrastructure and our economy grows.
