2degrees launches data bundle

AUCKLAND, 25 May 2010

2degrees launches data bundle in response to customer demand

2degrees 50MB Data Pack add on at $6 with no limit on renewal frequency makes mobile data more accessible for ordinary Kiwis

2degrees, New Zealand’s newest mobile network company, today released its first data pack, offering 50MB of mobile data for just $6. This represents the lowest prepay mobile data plan entry price point available on the market.

Buy mobile data as and when you need it

The 2degrees 50MB Data Pack has been released in response to express customer demand says Larrie Moore, Chief Marketing Officer. “The call for access to prepay mobile data is increasing. Our new 50MB Data Pack is the accessible, simple, and flexible entry to mobile prepay data that Kiwis have been asking for.”

Until now, prepay customers have been faced with the option of having to outlay a minimum of $10 to access a data plan on their phone. Now for just $6, customers can access 50MB of data, good for 30 days, and can renew as often as they like within the same month, without having to worry about being tipped on to an expensive casual data rate.

Better options for Smartphone users

Smartphone users and those simply wanting to access mobile email or Facebook will find the 2degrees 50MB Data Pack an accessible and manageable entry point to mobile data.

The launch of 2degrees 50MB Data Pack creates new opportunities for iPhone users, as the punitive two year contracts first signed up to in July 2008 begin to expire. Initially locked into high-price data commitments, many iPhone users will shortly have the opportunity to consider better value options with another provider.

How to get the 2degrees 50MB Data Pack

Current 2degrees customers can purchase the data pack by texting ‘buy 50mb’ to short code 233.

Valid for 30 days, the pack can be repurchased multiple times each month without complicated conditions or the purchase of any other package, an important differentiator from current options.

When the data allotment is nearly used, or when 29 days have elapsed, users are advised by text message and invited to buy another $6 Data Pack, If they don’t, they switch to casual data rates.

Mobile data is available on a variety of handset models, including the iPhone, other smartphones like the Blackberry, and even simple data-enabled mobile phones. The new Data Pack makes 2degrees an affordable option for smartphone users, with data priced at just 12 cents per megabyte.

What can you do with 50MB?

Mobile data enables phone users to experience more of the Internet at their fingertips. Based on estimates, 50MB of data could allow users to:
• Visit up to 400 mobile websites, or
• Send up to 2,000 emails (without attachments), or
• Download up to 25 of their favourite songs.

2degrees Data Packs are available today for purchase from any 2degrees retailer or by texting ‘buy 50mb’ to 233.

More than 200,000 New Zealanders have joined 2degrees since it launched in August 2009 with the promise of bringing better value to New Zealand mobile users.

The launch of 2degrees 50MB Data Pack is another significant step towards fulfilling that promise to Kiwi mobile customers.
