Nominees Announced For Towncentre Taupo’s 2010 Excellence Awards

Towncentre Taupo announced today that over nearly 100 Taupo businesses and business people have been nominated in the 2010 Excellence Awards programme.

“We’ve been overwhelmed by the response of the Taupo public to our call for nominations,” said Towncentre Taupo General Manager, Kylie Hawker. “Over 200 individual nominations were received over a two week period, with many businesses receiving multiple nominations. It’s rewarding to see that our community recognises some of the excellent businesses and business people we have in our town. Thank you to all those who helped us by nominating their favourite business or person.”

A panel of three independent judges has now commenced visiting each nominated business.

“Our judges will mystery shop each business that has been nominated, and will judge them on a variety of criteria including customer service, presentation and layout, up-selling and follow up service,” explained Ms Hawker. “Each business will be visited twice, and once the judges have completed the preliminary judging, we will then announce the finalists in each of the categories on 24 June.”

All finalists are then revisited for further assessment before the final decisions are made.

A new category for 2010, the Hilton Lake Taupo Personality of the Year award has a total of 18 nominations.

“It’s great to see some local identities recognised in this new category,” said Ms Hawker. “The Personality nominees are being reviewed by a separate panel, and the finalists will be interviewed in early July. The judges will be looking for people who consistently demonstrate a passion for Taupo, have a flair for business, a commitment to outstanding business practices, and a great personality!”

“The overall winners will be announced at a gala Awards Dinner on 23 July,” said Towncentre Taupo Chairman, Richard Buckthought. “After the huge success of last year’s inaugural event, the plans are well underway for what we hope will be an even bigger and better night!”

Representing more than 550 businesses in the Taupo Central Business District, Towncentre Taupo has developed the Excellence Awards programme to recognise and reward businesses for service excellence.
