RTO joint venture funding fantastic news
The Government announcement that $5 million of the $30 million additional funding support for tourism is earmarked for
the continuation of joint ventures is a vote of confidence in Regional Tourism Organisations to deliver value.
RTO’s and industry partners now have the ability to build on the collaborative work they began in 2009 to win business
through regional campaigns in Australia.
“It’s fantastic that Government is seeing the benefit of Regional Tourism Organisations and industry partners working
together to get the cut through in Australia, and turn that desire to come to New Zealand into a conversion to actual
bookings”, says Regional Tourism Organisations New Zealand (RTONZ) Chair, Don Gunn.
Government has committed to investment in joint ventures into the 2010/11 year, and with the focus turning to the Rugby
World Cup 2011 the importance of continuing this initiative cannot be overstated, says Mr Gunn.
“Our commitment as regions is to work together even more closely to ensure that the upcoming campaigns are inclusive of
all those regions that are able to participate, get a bigger return on investment, and showcase the wonderful regional
propositions that New Zealand offers a visitor”.
In a tough global market, in order to retain New Zealand’s position as a top destination, this investment is vital.
“Government gets a vote of thanks for seeing the benefits in partnering with regions and industry, and delivering
additional funding where it is needed. Regional tourism will do its bit to ensure it is money well spent”, says Mr Gunn.
