AgResearch comment on ERMA recommendations for GM

AgResearch comment on ERMA recommendations for GM applications

AgResearch has received the Environmental Risk Management Authority’s (ERMA) preliminary recommendations on its four applications to conduct genetic modification of animals.

“We have considered the recommendations about identifying the full range of GM organisms in our applications,” said Dr Jimmy Suttie AgResearch Applied Biotechnologies General Manager, “and we accept ERMA’s position.”

“We will continue to seek approval for our four applications, but now limit the range of species to mainly cattle, sheep and goats – which we already work with.

“We are progressing towards the hearing of our four applications before ERMA later this year.”

AgResearch’s four applications to ERMA are to import and develop, both inside and outside in a containment facility, GM organisms and conduct field tests.
