All Black Dan Carter Back In Business

All Black Dan Carter Back In Business And Teaching Us All A Lesson

The Newmarket Business Association has confirmed that All Black Dan Carter is back in business in Auckland, and claims he is a good example of not giving up when the going gets tough.

At the end of February the star rugby player and his business partners closed their trendy Gas Italian clothing store in Nuffield Street after less than 18 months in Newmarket. Their Gas stores in Wellington and Christchurch continue to trade.

“We were very disappointed when Gas closed its doors earlier this year, but it’s great that Dan has reopened for business in Newmarket. We really hope it goes well for him. I think he’s going to be a lot more involved this time round which will be key. Because it’s female fashion, it doesn’t clash with his existing sponsorship deals and so I understand that will free him up to be more publicly involved with its marketing,” says Cameron Brewer, chief executive of the Newmarket Business Association.

The old Gas premises has now reopened, with the new shop labelled B Original - a female fashion store, showcasing some big Brazilian designers.

Mr Brewer says the All Black has gone into business with Brazilian expat Debora Paz who set up the first B Original shop in Mount Maunganui.

“When Gas closed some commentators were quick to suggest that All Black business ventures have a long history of coming up short. However this All Black is still in business because he’s been brave enough to pull the plug and re-position. Good on him and his business partners for coming up with a new concept for the site and good luck.

“We really want Dan to succeed in Auckland. He is after all the biggest name in New Zealand sport. There’ll be a lot of interest in the shop during next year’s Rugby World Cup.

“When Gas opened in Wellington, we lobbied for Dan to bring his business north. Unfortunately Gas opened in Auckland just as the world went into economic recession. However Dan Carter didn’t walk away and give up. He got to work and did some serious reinventing. He is a great business advertisement for not throwing in the towel when the going gets tough. Rather he’s reapplying a different business model and trying again. A lot of us could learn from that,” says Cameron Brewer.
