Detailed Costing Underway
30 April 2010 – Progress is being made by Holcim (New Zealand) Ltd on updating costings for its proposed Weston cement plant and associated quarries and pits.
A newsletter being circulated this week to approximately 8,000 Oamaru residents and other key stakeholders outlines the key part these detailed costings will play as part of the formal proposal targeted to go to the Holcim New Zealand Board and then to parent company Holcim Ltd later this year.
“Until now we’ve only had higher level costing estimates, and we’re now getting into much more detail,” said Holcim New Zealand Capital Projects Manager, Ken Cowie. “Reviewing mechanical, electrical and civil aspects of the plant construction will give us a more accurate capital cost. These costings will be further refined through the tendering process.”
The newsletter also outlines a recent visit to the proposed plant site by new Holcim Board member Ian Thackwray, and a four day visit to several Holcim sites by MP Aaron Gilmore.
