Ali Mau Joins ‘New Look’ Fair Go

Ali Mau Joins ‘New Look’ Fair Go

Sunday 18th April 2010

TVNZ presenter Ali Mau will be co-presenting the ‘new look’ Fair Go when it returns to TV ONE in just over a fortnight.

“Mau is not just ‘A List’ in celebrity terms, she’s one of the best and most popular TV presenters in the country and a very dedicated journalist, there’s few people with all the skills to step into a role like this but Mau is the whole package and we’re rapt to have her joining the team”, says Fair Go Editor, Graeme Muir.

The much anticipated re-launch of NZ’s favourite consumer show will see Fair Go’s famous frontman, Kevin Milne co-presenting the show with Mau and Fair Go reporter, Gordon Harcourt.

Harcourt will continue reporting on Fair Go as well whereas Mau will primarily present thus enabling her to continue presenting morning news and remain an integral part of the very popular Breakfast team.

Despite Mau’s extensive experience across TVNZ News and Current Affairs she sees herself as an apprentice beside Milne, “Kev’s a legend, a multiple award winner and almost a national treasure. My attitude is very definitely “watch and learn”!

The new Fair Go will continue to bring strong journalistic stories focusing on relevant consumer issues and will include new features designed to give viewers industry insights from insiders who know the tricks and tips plus a much higher degree of engagement with consumers and viewers through research, road tests and via Facebook.

The Fair Go make-over includes a new on-air look. The visuals are bright, clean and a very modern twist on the long-running show’s raison d’être.

“Fair Go’s always been about getting justice for kiwis who have been ripped off and trying to prevent the rip-off in the first place by informing viewers about the scams and small print before they get stung”, says Kevin Milne.

“The show’s unrelenting consumer focus was the inspiration behind the clever new promos and the reason why boxes of lemons began arriving at TVNZ recently”.

Kevin’s job in the promo shoot was to drop-kick the lemons around the studio. Gordon got to throw them at the camera and while lemons rained down around Ali she got to deliver her first piece of consumer advice ‘Don’t buy a lemon, watch Fair Go and get the juice’.

“The new look and feel is really sharp I reckon and of course there are endless opportunities for bad puns – juicy stories, putting the squeeze on bad guys…” says Harcourt.

The lemon promos debut on TV ONE on Wednesday, “there’s some great drop-kicks and lemon moments in the out-takes that we think Facebook fans will appreciate so we’ll upload the best bad bits on the Fair Go page later in the week, it seems a shame to leave them on the cutting room floor”, says Muir.
