2010 Final Ma Te Reo Funding Round
opens
Te Taura Whiri i te Reo Maori hope to support the establishment of more iwi based kura reo, and the development of more iwi and hapu based language plans, in this, the final year of funding for Ma Te Reo.
"We encourage iwi and hapu as well as other providers and organisations to collaborate and work together in the development of their applications. This will ensure strategic and targeted distribution of funding across regions“, says Dr Wayne Ngata, Acting Chief Executive of Te Taura Whiri i te Reo Maori (The Maori Language Commission).
Ma Te Reo is a community based funding programme established by government in 2001 to support projects, programmes and activites that contribute to local level Maori language regeneration.
The fund is administered on behalf of government by Te Taura Whiri i te Reo Maori, who distributes $1.8 million annually in the form of conditional grants to iwi, hapu, whanau, Maori organisations and individuals.
The 2010 funding round opened on Monday 29 March 2010, and closes for hardcopy applications on Friday 23 April. On line applications will be received until Friday 7 May 2010.
“The Ma Te Reo funding pool was always a finite resource, and over its lifetime a number of iwi have developed and progressed to a point where the language has become a priority and investment made accordingly. We expect this trend to continue as more and more iwi become likewise established” says Dr Wayne Ngata.
