Industrial action may disrupt Tauranga buses

Industrial action may disrupt Tauranga buses

Tauranga’s Bay Hopper bus services may be disrupted tomorrow morning due to industrial action in the form of a strike by the National Distribution Union (NDU).

The NDU has called the strike between 6am and 8am tomorrow and this may disrupt some services. However not all Go Bus Transport (the service provider to Environment Bay of Plenty) drivers are members of the union. Go Bus is currently working on a plan to deliver normal bus services tomorrow with minimal disruption to passengers.

Environment Bay of Plenty Chief Executive Bill Bayfield said the timing of the industrial action was expected to cause some minor disruptions in services which was disappointing given this was peak travelling period.

“We apologise to our community and want to assure them that we are doing everything possible to minimise effects for our bus users,” Mr Bayfield said.

“We will endeavour, working with Go Bus Transport, to keep the community up to date on this issue as much as possible and we are hopeful that this won’t affect too many of our services.”
