Easter Treats from Able One and Mexican Rose

Action packed Singapore and Hong Kong racing over the Easter weekend saw New Zealand Bloodstock graduates Able One and Mexican Rose notch up stakes victories.

Returning his owners, Dr & Mrs Cornel Li Fook Kwan, to the Sha Tin victory dais on Sunday night Able One (Cape Cross x Gardenia by Danehill), revisited his Group 1 winning form to win the HK-2 HKJC Chairman's Trophy (1600m).

Trained by John Moore, the seven-year-old was ridden by Darren Beadman to secure an unassailable lead early in the straight to win over Mr Medici and reigning Hong Kong Horse of the Year Viva Pataca.

The Group 1 HKJC Champions Mile winner of 2007 has now won on seven occasions with three placings also to his credit for total stakes of almost HK$14,500,000. The full-brother to Listed winner Florilegium, from the family of Rebel Raider and Shamoline Warrior, was purchased at the 2004 Ready to Run Sale of 2YOs, for $270,000 by Paul Beamish Bloodstock for Hong Kong. He was prepared by successful breeze-up sale consignor, Janine Dunlop's Phoenix Park.

The win sees him throw down a challenge as he will shoot for his second victory in the Champions Mile, this year scheduled to be held on 25 April.

Meanwhile at Kranji, six-time Singapore Champion Trainer, Laurie Laxon's super-filly Mexican Rose (Volksraad x Down View by Gone West) had emphatically taken out the Singapore TC Kranji Sprint (1200m) in course record time. Further bolstering her career dossier to an enviable nine wins from eleven starts, she now heads to the Group 1 Lion City Cup (1200m) on April 24.
