Harmony And Organic Lamb A Winning Blend
When it comes to organic lamb, Harmony reigns supreme – especially now the Paeroa-based company holds the coveted “Glammies” award for New Zealand’s top retailer of quality lamb.
Harmony Foods won the Champion Meat Retailer trophy in the 2010 Golden Lamb Awards with its product MacKenzie Organic lamb, raised by Cambridge farmers Michael and Margaret Oliver.
Harmony managing director Mark Hunter says the Harmony team is delighted that the superb quality of organic meat has been recognised in the Glammies. “This award is proof that as New Zealand’s organic industry matures, our farmers can supply top quality meat that’s a winner in many ways – taste, tenderness and farming practice.”
Harmony is New Zealand’s leading supplier of organic lamb and beef, and the only SPCA-certified supplier of free-range pork, ham and bacon to supermarkets, specialist outlets and restaurants throughout New Zealand. Harmony also took third prize in the retailer class with its MacKenzie lamb entry.
The annual Golden Lamb Awards – the Glammies – are New Zealand’s premier lamb awards run by Beef & Lamb New Zealand to highlight the best the industry has to offer.
Before the taste test by a panel of judges, each leg of lamb is tested for tenderness and yield (the amount of lean meat compared to bone and fat). The judges included former All Black Richard Loe, Southland chef and food writer Graham Hawkes, Beef & Lamb New Zealand chef Michael Coughlin and celebrity singers the Topp Twins.
“Being asked to taste the finest lamb in the country which produces the best lamb in the world was always going to be heaven on a plate, and it certainly didn’t disappoint,” said Lynda Topp.
“All of the producers, processors and retailers involved in this competition should be proud of what they produce,” said Jools Topp. “It was delicious.”
