Strong Support for Merger Negotiations
Strong Support for Merger Negotiations from Chamber Members
Members attending the Wellington Regional Chamber of Commerce AGM on Wednesday provided overwhelming support for the concept of amalgamation with the Employers and Manufacturers Association Central, and for the continuation of negotiations with EMA Central over the detail of the new merged entity that is expected to be in place on 1 July.
“I was delighted at the strength of support that was given to the resolutions on this merger that were put to members at the AGM”, said Chamber President Jo Bransgrove.
“We also had a high quality debate on a range of issues during the meeting. It was clear that the vision of a bigger and stronger association offering a better range of services and a more efficient back office was welcomed by almost all members.
“There is much detail still to work through with our colleagues at EMA Central. Once this is developed a full proposal will be put to the entire Chamber membership for approval.
“EMA Central is due to hold a Special General Meeting on 8 April 2010 to discuss the merger with its members.
“We are determined that the model we develop be good for Wellington business, be good for the wider region, and enhance the brand and services offered by New Zealand Chambers of Commerce.
“With regard to New Zealand Chambers of Commerce, the board of the Wellington Regional Chamber of Commerce was greatly appreciative of the presence of Auckland Chamber CEO Michael Barnett at the AGM discussion and of the positive support for the merger in Wellington. We look forward to working with Michael and others on the NZCCI Board to develop a regional model of collaboration with the EMA which might be applicable outside the Central Region” Jo Bransgrove concluded.
