Former Ice Angels CEO joins SMX
New Zealand email security company SMX has appointed former Ice Angels CEO Mike Murphy to the newly created position of Sales Manager – Australia and New Zealand.
Mike Murphy has a wealth of IT industry experience going back more than 20 years. He founded Baan New Zealand, has run his own strategic consulting firm and, most recently, was the CEO of The Ice Angels – a highly successful venture capital group specialising in New Zealand IT companies.
SMX Managing Director Jesse Ball says Mike Murphy takes responsibility for SMX’s expansion into the Australian market as well as leading the New Zealand-based sales team.
Ball says Mike Murphy’s appointment is part of an international growth strategy for which development capital was raised last year. The fundraising round saw SMX raise $1.67 million from Sam Morgan’s investment company Jasmine Investment Holdings, Stephen Tindall’s K1W1 investment vehicle and Endeavour Capital (a New Zealand Venture Investment Company).
During 2008 SMX signed an important reseller agreement with India’s largest IT services company, CMC – a subsidiary of the giant Tata Group. CMC now has two data-centres up and running to host the SMX service. In early 2010 SMX made its first sale into Japan and began both direct and indirect sales into Australia, following the opening of an SMX data-centre in Melbourne.
“We are extremely fortunate to have someone of Mike Murphy’s experience and proven track record taking charge of our Australian sales growth – as well as keeping up our strong New Zealand growth momentum,” Ball said.
