Consultation on Natural Health Products welcomed

NPNZ welcomes consultation on Natural Health Products

Natural Products New Zealand welcomes the Ministry of Health’s consultation paper on the development of a natural health products bill released today.

A regulatory scheme is to be developed for natural health products that will give the public confidence that such products are safe and true to label.

“The industry welcomes the proposal for regulations around natural health products to ensure quality, safety and efficacy for both manufacturers and consumers,” says Michelle Palmer, Executive Director Natural Products New Zealand.

“Obviously, there will be areas that industry will want to comment on and we look forward to continuing to work with the National Party and the Green Party on this. A recognised regulatory system will be hugely beneficial to manufacturers in both their domestic and export markets. While most of the major manufacturers of natural health supplements are already manufacturing to Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) standards, it will provide additional endorsement to New Zealand’s well known reputation for its natural products’ quality and safety,” concluded Ms Palmer.
