ONYA Awards for Radio New Zealand
Radio New Zealand won two awards at the inaugural ONYA website awards announced on Friday night. The ONYAs are peer moderated industry awards celebrating excellence in construction and practical application of New Zealand websites.
The Radio New Zealand awards for Best use of HTML and CSS and Best Accessibility, follow other recent successes for the small public broadcasting web team. Radio New Zealand was declared Best Radio Website at the 2009 New Zealand Radio Awards, Best use of Open Source Software in Government in 2008, and won Best Website Design at the 2007 Qantas Media Awards.
The latest awards continue a significant run of success and independent recognition for Radio New Zealand networks and services.
Radio New Zealand National won the supreme award and was named New Zealand’s best radio station at the 2009 New Zealand Radio Awards, the first time a non-commercial public service broadcaster has won the radio industry’s top award.
In addition to its Station of the Year award, Radio New Zealand also received the award for Best Radio Website and collected a clean sweep of industry awards for best news including Best Coverage of a News Story, Best Newsreader and Radio Journalist of the Year. Radio New Zealand International won the prestigious International Radio Station of the Year Award at the Association for International Broadcasting ( AIB ) Media Excellence Awards in London in 2007.
