North Shore Company Helps Enterprising Auckland Students
Enterprise North Shore will run the 2010 Young Enterprise Scheme (YES) in central Auckland.
The economic development agency already facilitates the programme in secondary schools throughout the North Shore and
Rodney District as part of the countrywide Lion Foundation Young Enterprise Scheme and chief executive Terry Hoskins is
excited about delivering the programme in another part of the city.
“With 2010 being the ‘Year of the Super City’ it is vital for all of Auckland’s regions to work together. We are
thrilled to cross the bridge to deliver this year’s Young Enterprise Scheme in Auckland City’s secondary schools.
“The Young Enterprise Scheme is a wonderful opportunity to develop the business skills and passion of the next
generation and we are eagerly anticipating working alongside central Auckland students.”
The Young Enterprise Scheme, a school-based business programme, runs internationally and in New Zealand secondary
schools at years 12 and 13. It fosters tomorrow’s entrepreneurs by giving them the opportunity to form a company, create
a business plan, and produce goods or services to sell. Students learn all aspects of running a business including
budgeting, decision making, identifying and managing risk, market research, marketing, selling, and annual financial
reporting. Companies are liquidated at the end of the YES year.
