Don’t Buy Fertiliser On Promises
Farmers confronted by a fertiliser salesperson should ask one simple question before any meaningful discussion, ‘does it
have the Fertmark tick?’ If it doesn’t there’s no guarantee of either quality or performance.
Farmers can easily see those fertilisers carrying the tick as they are displayed on the Fertiliser Quality Council
website, www.fqc.co.nz. Fertilisers showing the tick are independently audited on a regular basis and the nutrients
declared in the promotion are guaranteed in the product.
Further, all Fertmark member companies’ field staff are qualified with the Massey University Fertiliser Certificate.
This means they can give qualified advice on nutrient management and are able to properly use the ‘Overseer’ nutrient
To be told a fertiliser can do something is not enough in today’s harsh farming climate. An independent audit is
required and Fertmark does this. Any company confident of its product is welcome to apply for Fertmark certification. If
a company doesn’t, farmers would want to ask serious questions.
