Holidays Act up for modernisation
New Zealand’s current Holidays Act is extremely poor law, says Business NZ.
Business NZ Chief Executive Phil O’Reilly says the Holidays Act rates as one of New Zealand’s worst laws in regular surveys of compliance costs.
“A law that lacks legal clarity, is costly to comply with and is open to misinterpretation is unacceptable.
“The Act is based around traditional working weeks but this is no longer the norm for all enterprises.
“Enterprises and employees need a flexible, easily calculated and easily audited system and the current Holidays Act review is a good opportunity for improvement.
“The review will need to address technical difficulties with the present Act and Business NZ will consult members and others on its proposals with the aim of getting more workable law.”
