Electricity reforms for the better
Business and consumers alike should be better off with the reform package in place for the electricity market, says the chief executive of the Northern Employers and Manufacturers Association, Alasdair Thompson.
"We are pleased the government has adopted many of our recommendations for the review," Mr Thompson said.
"We applaud the measures aimed at eliminating undue influence in the electricity market by generators and retailers.
"The Liquid Hedge Market for electricity is sorely needed though a real challenge for the industry.
"We congratulate the government for resisting the temptation to regulate when consumers switch over to a new supplier.
"The encouragement of oil and gas exploration - only 8 per cent of our huge continental shelf has been explored - is most welcome, as is the establishment of the new Electricity Authority."
