Colenso BBDO – Success at 2009 Young Guns
Agency ranked #3 in the world, only New Zealand agency in Top 10.
Colenso BBDO’s young creatives have been recognised as being among the best globally, bagging 6 of the 11 awards handed out to New Zealand agencies at Young Guns International’s YGAward 2009.  This included New Zealand’s only gold and silver bullets.
The result puts Colenso BBDO at number three in the world behind Leo Burnett Sydney and Droga5 USA, and the only New Zealand agency in the top 10.
Executive Creative Director Nick Worthington says the young guns have done the agency proud. “It’s a global show with all the best young creatives from the best agencies round the world entering their work, so ranking in the top three in the world for up-and-coming talent shows how competitive New Zealand can be on a world stage.  And it suggests the talent coming through has a great future.”
A gold bullet, one of just 11, went to Anne Boothroyd and the Yellow team for The Yellow Treehouse in the Integrated Campaigns category.
Colenso BBDO also took home two silvers including one for The Yellow Treehouse (Media Best Use of Integration) and one for Breast Feeding (Public & Community Service Print) by Jonathan ‘Jonno’ McMahon and Lisa Fedyszyn for Breast Cancer Foundation. Jonno and Lisa were also awarded a bronze for the New Zealand Book Council DVD/Book ambient (Public & Community Service Direct Mail).
Mick Stalker and Sarah Longworth’s “Cracks and Pavers” ad for America’s Next Top Model  (Print Advertising Consumer Magazine) and Richard Elworthy and Alysa Wakefield’s Fucking Fonts banner (Digital – Online Advertising) were named finalists.
Max and Ben, a placement team also managed a cheeky bronze in the best student category for a Vodafone bill DM piece.
From 40 entrant countries in 2009, 59 bullets were awarded (11 gold bullets, 13 silver bullets, 35 bronze bullets) and 37 finalists recognised across 17 countries.  To qualify entrants must be aged under 30 years. The judges said the quality of the awarded work was outstanding with a standout number of big and highly innovative ideas.
