Business Award Recognises Queenstown College
A forward-thinking Queenstown education institution has been recognised for its business excellence in developing a new market sector for the resort town.
Queenstown Resort College (QRC) won the medium business category (10-50 employees) at the Westpac Queenstown Business Excellence Awards last Friday (27 November).
The college came up against some stiff competition but the panel of judges for the awards, organised by the local Chamber of Commerce, said they thought QRC’s forward-thinking approach to education gave them the edge.
The college has quadrupled its intake numbers since it opened in 2006 and recently bought former hotel Queenstown Lodge to offer accommodation to its growing roll of students.
The financial investment future-proofs the college’s infrastructure needs and marks the first step in its long term vision of establishing a student campus in Queenstown.
“QRC has put a lot of investment into the region, particularly with the purchase of the lodge,” said awards judge Mike Sutherland.
“It’s hard creating a new learning institution outside of a large city but QRC’s strategy appears to be working and they’re going full steam ahead in the market.”
QRC CEO Charlie Phillips was on hand to accept the award at the gala dinner and said he was delighted his team had received such high recognition.
“This win reinforces our work to ensure tertiary study is a now a serious option in Queenstown.
“QRC is committed to ensuring the region becomes known as an outstanding place to gain a high level education and we’re proud to have introduced a totally new way of attracting people to the region.”
