Wrecks to Riches Extended by Popular Demand
Turners Auctions’ wrecks to riches initiative has been so successful it will be extended until 14 December, 2009 and Kiwis are lapping up the chance to cash in their old clangers.
Since launching in September 2009, more than 250 old, unsafe, broken down, too-expensive-to-fix or de-registered vehicles have been sold through Turners Auctions for free, with the profits from the sale going to the vehicle’s owner.
Turners General Manager of Marketing and Sales, Todd Hunter says people have been surprised at what their old wrecks are fetching.
“We’ve had a rusty old ‘74 Chevrolet Caprice with missing panels which went for $350 right through to a 2001 Toyota Altezza Gita that sold for $4,800,” says Todd.
With the festive season approaching, customers bringing in their wrecks are benefitting from the extra cash to put towards Christmas presents as Rosealind Adams recently discovered. She bought in her old car and joked with the auctioneers at Turners that it might fetch $50 if she was lucky.
“We assured her she would be left with more than that and the vehicle was sold for $825 – in anyone’s terms that a great amount of money simply for clearing up the back yard,” says Todd.
Turners will continue to communicate with vehicle wreckers to encourage them to recycle and dispose of all the vehicles purchased in an environmentally friendly way.
Wrecks to Riches Auctions will take place at Turners Auctions locations across New Zealand until 14 December 2009.
For more information on this service, please call your local Turners branch or visit www.turners.co.nz. If the vehicle can’t be moved, Turners will arrange for it to be picked up for free provided it’s within 30km of a Turners branch (conditions apply).
