Mediaworks CEO Steps Down at End of Year

After nearly 10 years leading MediaWorks NZ Ltd, CEO Brent Impey has decided to step down from his current role at the end of this year.

Mr Impey said he has concluded now is an appropriate time to step back from the day-to-day operations of the business and leave that to his management team.

“I am pleased that I have been able to develop a very strong management team and I step down from the CEO role knowing that I will be leaving the Company in good hands,” he said.

“I am very proud of the management team I’ve built up. I believe they are the best in the business and I’m grateful for their loyalty and support over the last decade.

“I would like to acknowledge all the staff of MediaWorks. We are a great big extended family and our culture is a special one. I thank everyone in the Company for the great job they do every single day, and I look forward to getting the chance to thank them personally for their contribution to the success of our business,” he said.

“The Board and shareholders wish to retain my services and input into the Company’s development and we have agreed on a part time consultancy until early 2011. This will allow for consistency and a smooth transition for the business,” he said.

Board Chairman, Brent Harman, paid tribute to Mr Impey’s tenure.

“A decade as a CEO is an impressive innings in any business; in the media business it’s quite spectacular.

“Brent has been a passionate broadcaster for most of his career, and his love of the media business has shone through in his time with MediaWorks.

“From his passionate belief in media freedom to recognising the importance of clients, hiring great staff, and being fiercely competitive, Brent has made an enormous contribution to the broadcasting landscape in New Zealand. For that the Board is grateful, and thanks Brent for his hard work,” he said.

“In the wake of Mr Impey’s decision, the Board of MediaWorks NZ Ltd has decided to appoint CEOs for each of the Radio and Television divisions, reporting to the Board,” said Mr Harman.

“The CEO MediaWorks Radio will be Sussan Turner, currently COO MediaWorks Radio. A search process is underway for the CEO MediaWorks TV,” he said.

“Although we won’t be appointing a group CEO, the streamlined structure of the business means we will have a smooth transition to CEOs for the respective TV and Radio businesses.

“The business is in very good shape and so it’s a case of business as usual for the Company,” said Mr Harman.
