Super city boundaries a difficult task done well

The Local Government Commission has done a difficult task very well for Auckland's future ward and local board boundaries, the Employers and Manufacturers Association (Northern) says

"Twelve wards and nineteen Local Boards is close to what we recommended in our submission," said EMA chief executive Alasdair Thompson.

"The Commission has done a particularly fine job in aligning communities of interest with Local Board boundaries

"We are pleased to see the Local Government Commission did not set ward boundaries that bisected or otherwise divided Local Board boundaries.

"This will be a big help in making representation arrangements easier to understand.

"Where slight anomalies in representation exist at ward level the Commission has done their best to partially offset them by providing enhanced representation at Local Board level.

"All in all this is a good result, and we urge the businesses and public of Auckland to make their views known to the Commission over the consultation period, which ends on Friday 11th December."
