Purex Announces Donation to Tsunami Relief
MEDIA RELEASE
17 November 2009
Purex is pleased to announce that a total of $35,000 has been donated to the Samoa Red Cross Society, following the launch of its Purex Cares campaign.
During October, 5 cents from
every pack of Purex toilet tissue sold was donated to the
Samoa Red Cross Society via the New Zealand Red Cross. A
total of 700,000 promotional packs were sold.
All of
the money raised will go towards rebuilding communities in
the islands’many small villages destroyed by the tsunami,
ensuring that those most in need receive practical
assistance.
“After such a devastating event
recovery efforts and programmes are going to take years not
months,” says Anna Fatkina, SCA Marketing Manager
Consumer. “The effort from everyday New Zealanders to
help those affected by the Samoan tsunami has been
overwhelming.”
“This campaign is part of SCA’s
long term commitment to do what we can to care for those in
need,” says Fatkina.
Funds raised will contribute to rebuilding housing as well as long term recovery initiatives including community based health care and first aid, psychosocial support, emergency shelter, livelihood programmes, disaster preparedness and disaster risk reduction support and capacity building to support initial disaster response and relief activity.
In the wake of
the disaster, immediate and practical support was provided
by Purex by way of tarpaulins, toilet paper and hand
operated tools.
Purex and Rolly continue to send their
heartfelt thanks to all of those who contributed to caring
for
others.
