Good run of success for Babich Wines
Babich Wines - November 2009 Press Release
Good run of success for Babich Wines as they look to launch an Organically Certified Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc!
This November Babich is due to release an Organically Certified Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc within a new range of Family Estate Individual Vineyard wines. The Babich family vineyards in Fernhill, Hawke’s Bay were the first in New Zealand to achieve sustainable registration. With their ongoing commitment to protect the environment through only implementing sustainable practises in all of their vineyards, it was a logical progression to move to the next step and investigate the benefits of an organic approach to viticulture. The Headwaters five hectare Organic Block (within the 25 hectare Headwaters Vineyard) is fully certified and is farmed in compliance with organic standards. This crisp dry Babich 2009 Family Estates - Headwaters Organic Block Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc is produced from grapes grown on the organic block in Marlborough and vinified in compliance with organic standards.
The launch of this new wine comes on the back of a very successful few months for Babich Wines, having collected 2 trophies and 5 Gold Medals.
The Babich 2007 Gimblett Gravels Gewürztraminer picked up a Gold Medal and the Trophy for Champion Premium White Varietals at the Hawke’s Bay Wine Awards on the 14th October (3 Silver Medals and 3 Bronze Medals were also awarded for other Babich Wines).
Two nights later the team were on stage again, this time at the Westpac Waitakere Business Awards at the Trusts Stadium. There they collected a trophy for the Airpro Marketing Excellence Award for their local brand Te Henga The Westie (in conjunction with the West Auckland Trusts). This brand has grown to be the largest selling wine brand in West Auckland.
Back in September at the New Zealand International Wine Show, the Babich 2008 Winemakers’ Reserve Pinot Noir was awarded a Gold Medal (1 Silver Medal and 8 Bronze Medals were also awarded for other Babich Wines) and at the New World Wine Awards the Babich 2007 Winemakers’ Reserve Merlot was awarded a Gold Medal and selected in the Top 50 (A Silver Medal was also awarded to the Babich 2007 Marlborough Riesling).
