New Zealand Couriers Workers on Strike

New Zealand Couriers Workers on Strike

Media release from the National Distribution Union

Monday, November 02, 2009

Around 30 dispatch workers at NZ Couriers Penrose site began a strike for improved wages this morning.

NDU organiser Mark Muller says the workers collective agreement expired at the end of June and negotiations have been dragging on since then.

“The workers are very frustrated. They earn well below what other workers doing similar jobs get. When the company told them it was not prepared to negotiate any further the only option left for them was to go on strike,” he says.

Mr Muller says the workers picketed the company all day and will be returning to the picket lines at 7.30 am tomorrow.
