Contact Energy offers support for relief effort in Samoa
In response to local requests, Contact Energy announced today it will send a shipping container of much needed LPG gas cylinders to Samoa in the wake of the tsunami tragedy.
A shipping container with 170 LPG cylinders is expected to depart from the Port of Auckland on Saturday and will be filled with LPG on arrival in Western Samoa. The 19kg and 45kg cylinders will be gifted to local aid agencies to assist thousands of people made homeless by the tsunami with their cooking and heating needs.
There is a critical need for cylinders in Western Samoa after many of the island’s LPG cylinders were washed out to sea following the tsunami.
The cylinders, which are expected to arrive in Samoa late next week, will be accompanied by free-standing burners and stoves to assist with the relief effort in Western Samoa.
“With such a large number of people struggling to live in devastating conditions we wanted to help in any way possible,” said Contact Energy, Managing Director David Baldwin.
“Given the need for LPG cylinders, and our expertise in this area, it made sense for us to provide support in this way,” he said.
