A subdivision resource consent recently granted for Remarkables Park provides for extensive expansion of the Town Centre, effectively doubling the retail, food and beverage and office space available.
Remarkables Park Limited (RPL) co-managing director Alastair Porter says the expansion will provide the greater Queenstown region with a second, full sized town center capable of housing large national stores and an expanded range of services.
“This expansion will reinforce Remarkables Park as a high quality, one stop destination complete with service and retail activity designed for local and regional residents and visitors,” he says. “Notwithstanding the recession, traffic to the Centre has grown by approximately 7% over the last 12 months with more than 4,000 vehicles visiting daily.”
As part of the plan, 900 new car parks will be established (there are currently 670 car parks) and a Town Centre Green with a children’s playground developed.
“The Green will be a place where people can relax, enjoy a meal and allow children to play.”
Remarkables Park Town Centre is currently home to approximately 20,000 sq metres of retail, food and beverage space and 5,000 sq metres office space with a further 1,400 sq metres approved but not yet built.
Under the approved new subdivision consent a further 26,000 sq metres will be developed. These buildings will provide predominantly larger stores for national retailers along with some smaller local retail shops and more restaurants and cafes.
“We have already entered into leasing discussions with prospective tenants for much of this space. We are now working with architects and expect to building to get underway in 2010,”says Mr Porter.
Under the plan, the Town Centre will eventually be surrounded by higher density residential accommodation which will include some residences above smaller shops in the river side end of the development.
