Raise a glass to new wine writer for Dish magazine

There’s a fresh new face on the Dish team with Yvonne Lorkin joining the magazine as wine writer from the upcoming Christmas issue.

“We’re delighted to have Yvonne on board,” says Dish Editor Victoria Wells. “Her reputation and standing in the industry are excellent and we are looking forward to her bringing a fresh voice and attitude to wine and beer in the magazine.”

Born, bred and based in Hawke’s Bay, Yvonne is a senior wine-show judge and has a syndicated weekly wine column that runs across five newspapers around New Zealand. She also runs a wine marketing consultancy business, and has a weekly radio wine segment on Hawke’s Bay’s Classic Hits.

Yvonne has previously written about food for Dish, covering topics as diverse as gourmet snails, paua farming, pavlovas, and milk-fed lamb.

She says she’s delighted to be writing about her passion for the magazine now. “I’m absolutely thrilled! Dish is a superb magazine on so many levels and I’ve been enjoying it since the very first issue, so I’m really looking forward to joining the team.”

In the Christmas issue (on sale November 23) Yvonne will continue Dish’s unique approach of matching each recipe with a suggested wine or beer, providing a solution for readers when they’re looking for the perfect match for a meal, or giving them confidence to try something new.

Yvonne will also be writing a column in each issue showcasing her latest discoveries and recommendations. Her first column will appear in the Summer issue of Dish, on sale mid-January 2010. Yvonne is the second of two new columnists introduced to Dish readers recently – in the current Spring issue Christchurch chef Jonny Schwass made his debut with his regular new column on growing and cooking, inspired by his own vegetable garden.
