AgResearch Revolutionises Communications
MEDIA RELEASE 30th September 2009
AgResearch reduces environmental impact with Canon video ideo conferencing onferencing
AgResearch, New Zealand’s largest Crown Research Institute has revolutionised its communications and efficiency by engaging Canon New Zealand to develop a tailormade in house video conferencing solution.
A substantial amount of staff travel has been reduced throughout the entire organisation as the Canon Tandberg™ system has alleviated the need for as many face-to-face meetings.
Dr Philip Lindsay, Chief Information Officer at AgReserch says this is a major step towards reducing their carbon footprint. “Canon’s experience in video conferencing solutions means AgResearch is now further reducing the impact on the environment that we work so rigorously to preserve,”
AgResearch is a leading example within the state sector organisations with this state of the art solution. The number of staff using the technology for inter-office meetings, conference group discussions, board and executive meetings and real time project work is increasing rapidly.
Dr Lindsay says that the benefits of the video conferencing solution are threefold as the reduction in travel is not only saving the environment but also costs and productivity due to travel time. “We have 1000 staff nationwide who can now utilise time and resources more effectively as we work without the limitations of location.
“These meetings conducted by video conferencing have saved the cost of airfares or vehicles, fuel consumption, accommodation, meals and especially time. The more we embrace it and use it the better the results,” says Lindsay.
Canon New Zealand, a premium partner of Tanberg built the solution specifically for the needs of AgResearch. Anthony Carppe, Visual Communications Specialist at Canon New Zealand says this is exactly what video conferencing is designed for and a great example of the returns it can have for business.
“We are very proud to showcase this solution as it demonstrates how video conferencing results in better work flow and productivity. AgResearch have certainly set the standard for other government departments to follow,” he says.
