New soul of SOULS revealed

Robert Harris was elected as 2010 President of the Society of Otago University Law Students (SOULS) on August 26.
SOULS held their Annual General Meeting and an afternoon of voting which saw 405 votes – the highest in history. Only
law students are eligible to vote.
The election was publicised through official notices on the SOULS noticeboard, in emails to all law students, and on the
SOULS Facebook page.
Current President Phil Thomson says that leading SOULS this year has been a very enjoyable experience that gave him the
opportunity to meet a lot of new people and to work with a fun-loving, hard-working Executive. The organisation has run
18 social events, six competitions, a number of education-focused events, and advocated for all law students within the
University and at a national level.
“I know that Rob Harris will be very successful in continuing on the great work that has been achieved by the recent
SOULS executives,” says Thomson. “I wish him and his new Exec the best of luck for the year ahead.”
President-Elect Robert Harris says he is “excited” about his new role next year. “It's currently a great organisation
that does a super job of promoting collegiality among law students as well as advocating for their interests.” He told
Critic that he sees SOULS continuing its expansion into education, sporting, and cultural events, as well as continuing
its much-loved social events.
“We have a strong group of Executive members for 2010, and I am sure that they will be enthusiastic and dedicated,
building on the great work done by the 2009 Executive,” Harris says.
