Family fun theme for SBS Duathlon

Family fun theme for SBS Duathlon

Spring is in the air and there is a spring in the step of our team at SBS Bank Papanui branch as they eagerly await the upcoming SBS Family Duathlon.

Designed to be a fun, friendly and rewarding event, the SBS Family Duathlon is being held in and around Bottle Lake Forest, Christchurch, on Sunday 13 September.

SBS Bank Papanui branch manager Mike Brownie said his team was delighted to get involved with the duathlon event this year.

“The SBS Family Duathlon aims to get the whole family active and the event is ideal for generating a bit of family spirit and fun while being held in such great scenic and sporting surrounds at Bottle Lake Forest,” Mr Brownie said.

“Combining the two sporting codes of running and cycling, training for and competing in duathlon has become a popular way to achieve overall fitness, since more muscles are being used when compared with training for just one of these activities.

“While the distances will be enough to challenge first-timers, it won’t be too far and it will be enough of a challenge to generate a sweat on any of our budding, future Olympians.

“The key thing is that the SBS Family Duathlon is another means to help show our youngsters that healthy outdoor activities are fun, exciting and rewarding, while in turn helping them to improve their fitness.

“At SBS Bank, we thrive on getting active in our communities with our people and their events and we’re more than partial to our sporting challenges, particularly here in Christchurch where we embrace long-standing associations with events such as the SBS Marathon, Kids Mara’Fun, New Balance SBS Pier to Pier and SBS Kids Mini Bays.”

The SBS Bank Papanui staff will be joining representatives of the Life Education Trust, including Harold the Giraffe, at the SBS Family Duathlon to help promote their message of health, wellbeing and community partnerships.

There would also be plenty of spot prizes to be won after the event, Mr Brownie said.

Anyone wishing to register to take part in this year’s SBS Family Duathlon can do so by visiting www.sportcanterbury.org.nz for further information and an entry form.
