HP Opens Global Applications Services Centre

HP Opens Global Applications Services Centre in Christchurch, New Zealand

CHRISTCHURCH, NEW ZEALAND – August 24, 2009 – HP today announced the opening of a services centre in Christchurch, New Zealand to help clients cost-effectively develop and manage their applications to achieve their business goals.

The Christchurch centre, part of HP’s applications services Best Shore® delivery network, is designed to leverage the benefit of global delivery and reduce its associated risk. The Best Shore® network focuses on providing the skills and expertise clients need from locations around the world, using consistent business and technical processes.

Christchurch is increasingly becoming a technology hub with a quality technology education sector and highly-skilled labour market. The centre is recruiting now and is expected to create a significant number of new jobs in Christchurch.

“The Canterbury Development Corporation is wholly supportive of this initiative and is confident of numerous flow-on benefits for the local economy,” said Bill Luff, chief executive officer at Canterbury Development Corporation. “We need to retain the talent coming out of our educational institutions. To achieve this, it is critical that we have enough work to keep them here, and this centre provides one such opportunity. The potential impact of a centre like this on the local economy is very significant.”

“The proximity and the experience of the centre to Asia Pacific organisations will help reduce the risk and cost of completely offshoring work as part of their business strategy,” said Eric Clark, vice president, Applications Services – Asia Pacific and Japan, HP. “HP is a market leader in applications services and regional clients working with the Christchurch centre will benefit from similarities in time zones and language.”

HP continues to invest heavily in developing these skills locally and plans are currently underway to enhance the centre’s SAP and Oracle capabilities.

The HP Christchurch centre is part of a broader plan to expand HP’s applications services in New Zealand. HP is also in the process of establishing a specialist Government Applications Centre in Wellington to work closely with its public sector clients, particularly in the areas of transformation and modernisation. The Christchurch centre joins HP delivery centres across China, India Philippines, Egypt, Poland, Slovakia, Argentina, Brazil and Costa Rica.

Clients in a wide range of industries – including manufacturing, financial services and telecommunications – look to HP Applications Services to help increase the efficiency, and effectiveness of their applications. HP’s approach uses standard technology, best practices and global experience to maximise client value.
