Saint Clair Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc
15 Years In
The Making
Saint Clair Family Estate Marlborough is celebrating 15 vintages with the release of the Saint Clair Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc 2009. Saint Clair Family Estate remains an entirely family owned business, with a highly skilled award winning team, committed to a quality product.
Viticulture pioneers since 1978, Neal and Judy Ibbotson are one of the original grape growers in Marlborough, initially supplying other local wine companies. Their desire and drive to extend the quality achieved in the vineyard, through to the finished wine, led to the establishment of Saint Clair Family Estate, now an internationally acclaimed winery exporting to over 50 worldwide markets.
The Saint Clair quality assessment selection, developed both in the vineyard and in the winery, (where Sauvignon Blanc is fermented in 130 small tanks), has identified sub-regions of Marlborough producing superior Sauvignon Blanc. Saint Clair’s winemaker, Matt Thomson spends most of his time at harvest in the vineyard and makes the call to pick based on quality flavours. As a result, 47 trophies and 133 gold medals have been awarded over the last eight years.
The international wine show circuit has recognised this excellence, awarding Matt Thomson ‘White Winemaker of the Year,’ at the London International Wine Challenge, September 2008, as well as ‘New Zealand Winemaker of the Year,’ at the Winestate Wine of the Year Awards 2008.
The new vintage of the Saint Clair Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc contains intense powerful aromas and a full elegant palate, which is perfect for immediate consumption. The palate is dominated by fresh passionfruit flavours with well-balanced acidity and a long lingering finish.
Matt Thomson comments, “The 2009 vintage looked like it could be one of our most difficult by late February, but ended up being the most relaxed vintage I’ve ever been part of with warm, sunny days, and cool nights that continued right through to the end of April. We think the 2009 Sauvignons are some of our best ever, and we are looking forward to their release and feedback from customers and press.”
The combination of site selection, viticulture expertise, superior winemaking and quality selection, from a passionate team has created a quality product, which has positioned Saint Clair Family Estate as a leading New Zealand wine producer.
