Southern Discoveries moves to strengthen markets

Southern Discoveries is strengthening its position in the marketplace through a strategic partnership with a leading tourism industry expert.

The Milford Sound tourism operation has contracted Simon Watson (Reach for the Sky) to provide sales representation for the company in the Auckland wholesale and inbound tourism markets.

Southern Discoveries General Manager John Robson said he was delighted to be partnering with someone of Simon’s calibre.

“Simon’s industry experience and business contacts will be invaluable in driving our business forward,” he said.

A former ITOC (Inbound Tour Operators Council) board member, Simon has been involved in the tourism industry for more than 15 years.

Previous experience includes selling Canada, Mexico and Alaska for Discover Holidays before moving into the inbound sector for Tourism Holdings Limited.

“I quickly discovered a passion for promoting and selling New Zealand and have thrived in this sector,” said Mr Watson. “I’m really looking forward to working with Southern Discoveries to promote its superior experiences in what has to be one of the most stunning destinations in the world.”

Mr Robson said it was fortuitous to have Simon on board ahead of the ITOC Conference in Gisborne next week (11 -13 August).

“It’s great to have Simon’s representation at this key industry conference which provides great networking and business opportunities,” he said.

Southern Discoveries offers the most modern cruising experience in Milford Sound with a fleet of three spacious catamarans and the Encounter Cruise. It also operates the Milford Discovery Centre, New Zealand’s only floating underwater observatory, and the Blue Duck Café and Bar in Milford Sound.
